TRIP Description
DOBINŚKÀ ICE CAVE
The first electrically illuminated cave in Europe that was open to the public already in 1871. You can see there a robe of eternal ice whose thickness reaches over 20m. Water flowing through the years creates beautiful ice formations. Low temperature remains at -2ºC, even at Midsummer, what allows to keep the ice in its splendid forms.
Spišská Kapitula and Spišské Podhradie
The Spišská Kapitula is the seat of the Spiš bishops and is called the "Slovak Vatican". Its most valuable monument is the late Romanesque St. Martin's Cathedral. Nowadays, Spišská Kapitula is a district of Spišské Podhradie - a town which originated as a settlement on the foot of Spiš Castle. The first written mention of the town dates back to the 13th century. Walking through its streets, we will admire the picturesque landscape of the Spiš region with the ruins of the Spiš Castle.
Kežmarok
A small medieval town, which was granted town rights in 1269. There are many valuable monuments in Kežmarok, such as the unique wooden Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity, the town hall or the fortified castle, whose modern form includes Gothic, Renaissance and Neo-Classical elements.
SPIš CASTLE
The ruins of Spiš Castle reign majestically over the surrounding area. The castle is one of the largest complexes of its kind in Central Europe and extends over an area of nearly four hectares.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to ongoing renovations at the castle and the extension of the exclusion zone for visitors, the tour programme does not include a visit to the castle.
