Trip description
Boldogkő Castle
First evidence of the castle can be found in documents from the XIIIth century. It was built after the Tatar invasion as a fortress. From the castle that was constructed on a steep rocky ridge there is a breathtaking landscape of the local valleys. Inside the historic building we can admire for example archaeological expositions, historic military exhibition, a smithy and the castle prison.
Vineyard tour and vine tasting
On the way to the region's capital, we will tour one of Tokay’s leading vineyards. The property holds almost 110 winery hectares and is located on a small volcano hillside. During the stroll in the vineyard, we will look closer at the process of grape-bearing vines plantation and wine making. We will also go to the cellars filled with wooden barrels full of maturing wine. Lastly, we will taste the tokay’s wine which will occur in the historical cellar.
Town Tokay
Tokay is a small town located in the northern-eastern region of Hungary. First mentions about the settlement “Tokay” are from the XIIIth century when in the area Italian wieners settled. The towns largest development happened in the XVIIth and XVIIIth century during the arrival of Greek merchants. While touring the quaint Tokay center we will find winery cellars including the most famous- nearly 600 years old- Rakoczy Cellar.
