TRIP Description
Demänovská Valley and the Low Tatras
The Demänovská Valley is the most famous and the most visited valley of the Low Tatras. It is 15 km long and is the main tourist centre in the northern part of the Low Tatras. The valley is a part of the Low Tatras National Park. The park was established in 1978 and is today the largest national park in Slovakia. Almost a thousand kilometres of hiking trails run through it, and one of the most interesting and beautiful is precisely the ridge trail.
Chopok
Chopok - peak in the Low Tatras in Slovakia. Depending on the source, it is considered the second or third highest peak in the Low Tatras. Chopok is a very good viewpoint. There is a restaurant at the upper station of the cable car, as well as the mountain chalet "Kamenná Chata".
From Chopok, we will set off on a scenic route leading along the mountain ridge.
Vrbice Lake
Vrbice Lake (Vrbické pleso) is a glacial lake and the largest natural water reservoir in the Low Tatras. It lies at an altitude of 1113 m and covers an area of 0.69 ha. It is a moraine lake, which was formed after the glacier receded from the northern slopes of Chopok and Deresz (Dereše). Since 1975, it has been a natural monument and has been placed under the highest level of protection.
